The Woocommerce shopping cart is a great WordPress plugin, make no mistake. I have used it many times to build client shops, and initially I made a few mistakes in how I thought it worked. Yeah, I know read the documentation…

Here’s my list:

  1. Most clients need more fields on the checkout than provided by the Woocommerce plugin. This means that you need to buy the paid extension that allows you to add custom fields (works well), or that or you need to program it;
  2. Most payment gateways needs a paid Woocommerce extension, unless you are using Payfast (South African payment gateway);
  3. Some themes are just not compatible with Woocommerce, so use a Wootheme to save yourself some trouble;
  4. Importing clients/products. You need a paid extension;
